Meffan Museum & Art Gallery covers the local history of Forfar and also exhibits works of local, national and internationally-renowned artists.
Two spaces within Meffan Museum and Art Gallery are devoted to an art exhibition programme. Details of the current exhibition can be found on Facebook – The Meffan Gallery.
Within the museum space, you can explore the Forfar Story by wandering through a recreation of an old narrow cobbled street, called The Vennel, and you can peer inside several small shops. There is Peter Reid’s sweet shop, a knockmaker’s workshop and a baker’s shop, with displays of bread and bridies.
You can also examine several enigmatic sculptured stones, in a Pictish stones display.
Meffan Museum & Art Gallery has a small gift shop and public toilets.
Meffan Museum and Art Gallery has a level entrance from West High Street. There is full access to the ground floor and a lift providing access to the upper floor. An accessible toilet is available on the ground floor.
Travelling to Meffan Museum & Art Gallery by CAR Forfar is on the A90 route, between Dundee and Aberdeen, approximately 14 miles north of Dundee. Travelling on the A90 dual carriageway, turn off this route when you see direction signs for Forfar A94. Drive to the centre of Forfar on the A94. Once you arrive in the central area, you will find several public car parks.

Travelling to Meffan Museum & Art Gallery by BUS Forfar is on a direct bus route from Dundee. You can travel to central Forfar and depart the bus on West High Street, near the museum at No. 20.
Travelling to Meffan Museum & Art Gallery by TRAIN The nearest mainline railway station to Forfar is in Dundee. After leaving the train, catch a bus to Forfar and follow the instructions for travelling to the Meffan by bus.
There are two carparks within central Forfar, both within a 5 minute walk of the museum.
