About the Role
We are seeking up to four motivated and enthusiastic Archive Assistants to support the day-to-day delivery of a modern, accessible archive service.
Working closely with the Archivist, Heritage Researchers and learning and curatorial teams, you will help provide a friendly and professional service to visitors and researchers, assisting with access to collections, responding to enquiries, and supporting public activities.
This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working with people as much as collections. You will contribute to the smooth running of archive services at the Heritage Archive Centre at Paisley Museum – helping ensure visitors feel welcome and supported while maintaining the highest standards in customer experience and collections care.
You will also play an important role in supporting public programmes, administrative processes, and collections documentation, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in archives, museums or heritage.
Key Responsibilities
- Support delivery of an open and accessible archive service, welcoming and assisting a wide range of users both in person and online.
- Support people to explore and use collections, helping them understand how to find information, handle material safely, and get the most from their visit or enquiry.
- Help deliver a positive and engaging visitor experience, preparing materials, supporting sessions and ensuring things run smoothly for participants.
- Enable access through organisation and preparation, so that users can easily engage with collections, both in person and through enquiries.
- Work as part of an integrated cultural team, to support joined-up delivery, contributing to a service where collections are actively used and shared.
What you’ll bring
- A genuine interest in working with people: You enjoy helping others, are approachable and patient, and take pride in delivering a positive customer experience.
- Confidence supporting a wide range of people: You are comfortable working with different audiences – from experienced researchers to first-time visitors – and can adapt your approach to their needs.
- Strong organisational and practical skills: You can follow processes accurately and support the day-to-day running of a busy public-facing service.
- Clear and supportive communication: You can explain information in a straightforward and friendly way, helping people feel confident and informed.
- A collaborative and flexible approach: You work well as part of a team, are willing to help where needed, and enjoy contributing to a shared service.
- Care and attention to detail: You understand the importance of handling materials responsibly and are willing to learn and apply good practice.
