New Chair of the Recognition Committee appointed

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Chanté St Clair Inglis as the new Chair of the Recognition Committee.
Chanté currently serves as the Director of Heritage and Estates at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She brings extensive experience in developing and promoting diverse collections and has played leading roles in significant sector initiatives, including the development of the National Museums Collection Centre in Granton, Edinburgh. She also contributes expertise through governance and advisory roles across the sector, serving on the Museums Association’s Ethics Committee and as a Trustee of the Collections Trust. In addition, she supports cultural restitution efforts through advisory panels in both Scotland and Ireland.
The Recognition Committee oversees the Recognition Scheme, which promotes and supports Scotland’s nationally significant collections beyond those held in the national museums and galleries. The scheme is delivered by Museums Galleries Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government. The scheme was paused in 2023 to undergo a comprehensive review and reopened for applications earlier this year.
As Chair of the Recognition Committee, Chanté will play a pivotal role in enhancing the visibility, sustainability, and collective impact of Scotland’s nationally significant collections.
Commenting on her appointment, Chanté said:
“I’m honoured to be appointed Chair of the Recognition Committee. The Recognition Scheme is a powerful way to celebrate and support the breadth of Scotland’s nationally significant collections, wherever they are held. I’m excited to learn more about the remarkable work happening across the country and to help shape a future where these collections continue to enrich lives for generations to come.”
Lucy Casot, CEO of Museums Galleries Scotland said:
“I am delighted that Chanté will be taking on the role as Chair of the Recognition Committee. Her insight will be invaluable as the Recognition Scheme continues its mission of advocating for and preserving Scotland’s nationally significant collections following its reopening earlier this year.”
