Our statement on racist violence across the UK
Lucy Casot, CEO of Museums Galleries Scotland, “We stand with our sector colleagues who condemn the appalling scenes we are witnessing in UK towns and cities.”
“Many colleagues will be personally impacted by the violence, racism, and anti-Muslim bigotry and organisations will be thinking about what they can do to support them, and all people affected.
Museums can offer safe places for people to come together to understand what has happened and to rebuild. We can also lend our voices to reject racism in every form and work to ensure it has no place in our society.”
These events highlight the vital importance and urgency of continuing the work that many museums have begun – striving to make their spaces welcoming and safe for all, places where different voices, experiences, and stories are shared and injustices and oppression are no longer denied and ignored.
