Board Trustee
An adult with light skin, short brown hair, and a brown moustache. They have glasses, a nose ring, a white shirt, and a dark blue blazer.

Matthew started in museums in a front of house role while studying for a postgraduate degree. With brief stints at a former local authority museum, the South Georgia Museum in the South Atlantic, and plenty of voluntary work in between, he was Curator for the Scottish Maritime Museum caring for Scotland’s national maritime collection before being appointed Museum Manager at HMS Unicorn in 2021 to guide the organisation through Accreditation and advocate for Scotland’s oldest ship.

Matthew is currently the Chair of the subject specialist network STICK (Scottish Transport and Industry Collections Knowledge Network) helping to connect collections and their custodians, a Museum Association Representative for Scotland, and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries Scotland.

Matthew’s previous roles have seen him focus on collections care and management and the oversight of several capital grants relating to collections interpretation, as well as advocating for the importance of Scotland’s industrial and transport collections and the living connections they have with Scots today.
