Museum Futures access to the Cultural Enterprises Academy

Introduction

As part of the Museum Futures programme, we’ve teamed up with the Association for Cultural Enterprises to provide Scottish museums with complimentary access to the Cultural Enterprises Academy, its online training resource normally only available free of charge to its members.

Totalling over 40 units of expert-led CPD approved learning, worth nearly £2,000 per person, the Academy is an online learning and training resource designed to expand your knowledge in key areas of cultural enterprises. All courses are available on demand, so you can learn at your own pace, in your own time.

Through this partnership with the Association, 50 Scottish museums will be given free access to all units for an unlimited number of participants, for a six month period.

List of courses available

The Academy courses cover a range of key topics including:

  • Business Skills
  • Catering
  • Digital
  • eCommerce
  • Events, Filming & Venue Hire
  • Fundraising
  • Publishing
  • Retail & Licensing
  • Strategy
  • Ticketing
  • Visitor Experience

The full list of courses are available on the Cultural Enterprises Academy website. This includes a full breakdown of individual units and learning outcomes for each course, information about the course creator, and the CPD status of the course.

The courses are delivered online, through a mix of videos and text, with each containing between 1 and 2.5 hours of taught content. Many include additional exercises and end of course quizzes which take additional time to complete, but help embed your learning. Some courses provide a learning diary to support you to put your learning into practice.

Eligibility and how to apply

This opportunity is open to 50 Scottish museums and access will be on a first come, first served basis. We will monitor demand and may reopen the opportunity to a second cohort later in the year.

Museums applying for this opportunity should use the Organisational Health Checker (OHC) in order to help you make the most of access to the Academy by being clear on your training priorities.

One person from your organisation will need to take responsibility for coordinating engagement with the Academy, this will include collecting names, job titles and email addresses of those for whom you want access.

How to apply

Please email the Museum Futures Programme Delivery Team to note your interest in accessing the Academy. If you have not already, please complete the Organisational Health Checker and arrange for a one-to-one session with the team to discuss it. Access to the programme is not dependent on having already had your one-to-one session with the team, but you should have the session booked in.
