Google Business Profiles

Google Business Profiles are something many people use every day. From checking opening times to flicking through images of cake from the cafe, visitors will often use a Google Business Profile as their primary source of information before visiting your museum.

Updating Google Business Profiles

We know the importance of keeping websites up to date, but Google Business Profiles often get forgotten as the less exciting digital sidekick. However, in their research, visitors may not even make it as far as your website so it’s vital that information on Google Business Profiles is up to date, reflects your brand, and is visually appealing.

VisitScotland and Google Business Profiles

VisitScotland have recently announced that from the start of next year they’ll introduce a new map feature powered by Google Maps Platform. This will allow visitors to discover tourism businesses and points of interest across Scotland using text search, intuitive category filters, and interactive map tools.

Top Tips

Here are some tips to make your Google Business profile stand out:

  • Keep opening times up to date, including seasonal closures
  • The ‘About’ section is where you can give more information. Include accessibility, amenities, and audiences such as family and LGBTQ+ friendly
  • Photos should be eye-catching and reflective of what is in the museum. If you have a cafe or shop include photos of the food and products visitors can expect
  • Encourage visitors to post Google reviews. These will show on the Google Business Profile
