We’re pleased to announce that £157,715 has been awarded to 15 organisations across Scotland through the Small Grants Fund. Thanks to increased investment this year from the Scottish Government, the Small Grants Fund was also open to Non-Accredited museums for the first time, seven of which have received grants in this round.

From improving collections care to developing their workforce, the awarded organisations are using the grants to create a more accessible and sustainable sector.

Birse Community Trust will fund an ICON-accredited conservator to train local volunteers to care for its collection, which is held in the Ballogie Souter’s (Shoemaker’s) Workshop Museum. The grant will also allow the museum to improve its collection care by upgrading its storage units. South Lanarkshire Leisure & Culture has received funding for its Rediscovering Rutherglen revisited project. The project will help to celebrate Rutherglen’s 900th anniversary of becoming a Royal Burgh by digitising 900 objects from the Rutherglen museum collection and making them publicly available on an interactive touchscreen at Rutherglen Library. Innerpeffray Mortification will develop an accessible, multi-sensory outdoor space at Innerpeffray Library to enable and encourage visitors to enjoy the surrounding natural heritage. The grant will also support improved interpretation to help tell the story of Innerpeffray’s Roman history.
