Collections Management Cohort
Programme information
Museums Galleries Scotland has partnered with Collections Trust to deliver a series of workshops and peer support on core collections management issues. This opportunity is open to a cohort of six museums, each with two members of the workforce in attendance.
This support is aimed specifically at museums which are planning or currently going through a collections store relocation. Cohort membership will develop skills and confidence in your organisation’s ability to plan for and appropriately carry out a collections relocation.
The workshops will be delivered on the following dates:
- 24th June 2025: Maintaining inventory information during collections relocation
- 11th November 2025: Collections review – scoring matrix, criteria; good practice examples
- 24th February 2026: Collections disposals and rationalisation – decision making, ethics, and documentation
All sessions will run from 10:00 – 13:00, and both members of the workforce will be required to attend all sessions.
In between sessions, cohort members will be encouraged to provide peer support, and will have regular one-to-one catch-up sessions with MGS Museum Development Manager, Jacob O’Sullivan . Cohort members will also be encouraged to apply to MGS funding streams to address any outstanding issues.
There are limited spaces available. Expressions of Interest will be assessed based on evidenced need for training and ability to implement learning and development.
To apply for this course, please download an expression of interest form below and send it to jacobos@museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk by 12 noon on Monday 2nd June 2025.
