About us

Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) is the National Development Body for the Scottish museums sector.  We’re here to support more than 400 museums and galleries, whether through strategic investment, advice, advocacy, skills development or other means. We currently have 37 staff. We have Gold Investors in People accreditation, are a Disability Confident Employer and a Living Wage Employer. We are striving to be an anti-racist organisation

Location

We have a modern open-plan office in central Edinburgh and we are set up for a range of flexible working options. We are a hybrid working organisation with flexibility around working from home and the office.

Hours of work 

The normal full time working week is one of 35 hours Monday to Friday with a minimum unpaid lunch break of half an hour. A flexi-time system is in place along with an approach to flexible working. 

Fair pay and remuneration

Clear salary scales

We have a system of clear salary scales that help employees understand their pay and progression.

Pension 

MGS employees will be automatically enrolled in the Lothian Pension Fund. The employer contribution for 2023/24 was 22.6%.

Cyclescheme 

We have a pre-tax salary sacrifice option to help you purchase a bicycle and equipment that enables you to cycle to work. Secure cycle parking and shower facilities are available in our Edinburgh office.

Annual leave 

Annual leave entitlement for full-time employees is 25 working days plus 10 public holidays, rising to 30 days after 5 years’ continuous service. (Leave is calculated pro-rata for part-time employees.)
