MGS publishes 2024-25 Annual Review and Climate Report
We have published our Annual Review and Climate Report for 2024-25, highlighting our diverse responsibilities as the national development body for Scotland’s museum sector and our continued delivery against the aims of Scotland’s Museums and Galleries Strategy.
The Annual Review outlines our grant-making, finances, core activity, and partnership work. It features a range of key organisational achievements, from major events such as our second annual Strategy Symposium and our Parliamentary Reception on anti-racism in museums, to innovative projects including Workforce for the Future and Delivering Change.
In 2024-25, MGS:
- awarded £1,746,181 in grants to museum organisations
- made 169 visits to 96 museums
- hosted 275 delegates at Scotland’s Museums and Galleries Strategy Symposium
- provided 46 learning opportunities through Delivering Change
- grew the Scottish Museums Climate Network to a membership of over 100
- delivered 17 funded Modern Apprenticeships
Published alongside the Annual Review is our first-ever Climate Report. This document summarises the scale and scope of the museum sector’s efforts to address the planetary climate crises, and underscores our organisation’s commitment to reducing our environmental impact.
Lucy Casot, CEO of Museums Galleries Scotland, said: “Our Annual Review and Climate Report contain many examples of our shared efforts to build a fairer, stronger, and more sustainable museum sector.
“I’m immensely grateful to MGS staff and Board members, our museum sector colleagues, and key partners for making this work possible. Thanks to their skills and dedication, museums and galleries are able to support Scotland’s communities and protect Scotland’s collections.
“I look forward to building on these achievements in the year ahead through our continued support for the museum sector.”
