We’re pleased to welcome Rebecca Bailey and Conor Jon Ellis as new Members of our Board of Trustees. As Board Members, Conor and Rebecca will provide valuable oversight of our work and help steer the direction of our organisation as we enter the second year of our Museum Futures programme and embark on a refresh of Scotland’s Museums and Galleries Strategy.

Rebecca Bailey is Programme Director of the research and development programme Towards a National Collection, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Rebecca is assigned to the programme full time for seven years by Historic Environment Scotland, where she has worked since 2004. Her most recent role was Head of Exhibitions and Outreach, and she previously led work in education, publishing, research, community engagement, and fundraising.

Conor Jon Ellis is Director of Science Learning and Engagement at Dynamic Earth, the Edinburgh Science Centre and Planetarium. He has worked across the cultural landscape with science centres, festivals, and National Museums Scotland, and has significant experience of working in partnership with a wide range of organisations reaching diverse audiences across Scotland, UK, and internationally.

Duncan Dornan, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said: “I’m delighted that Conor and Rebecca are joining our Board. Both bring significant sector expertise, unique perspectives, and a passion for our values of collaboration, courageousness, and integrity. They join an already strong Board which has a breadth of experience. I am hugely grateful for the time volunteered by all to our collective work supporting the continued development of an inclusive, innovative, and resilient museum sector in Scotland.”

The Board of Museums Galleries Scotland advocates for Scotland’s museums and galleries and supports the organisation to effectively develop and champion the sector. The responsibilities of the Board include setting our strategic direction of our organisation and ensuring we are financially and operationally robust.
