Congratulating the winners and finalists of the 2025 Museums + Heritage Awards

A large neoclassical building with rows of stone pillars, surrounded by greenery. Edinburgh Castle, a collection of dark stone buildings with high walls, stands on a rocky outcrop in the background.

Congratulations to the People Team at National Galleries of Scotland for winning the Team of the Year award at the Museums + Heritage Awards, held in London on May 15th 2025. The team received this recognition for delivering “complex work with sensitivity and impressive results, leading to a significant uplift in staff satisfaction.”

Also shortlisted for Team of the Year were the Commercial Development and Programming Team at Glasgow Life Museums, who were highly commended for their work.

Scottish museum organisations and attractions were well represented across the 19 award categories. Culture Perth and Kinross was shortlisted for three awards, narrowly missing out in the Sustainable Project of the Year, Best Use of Digital – UK, and Marketing + Communications Campaign of the Year categories. The nominations reflect a successful first year for Perth Museum, which opened to the public in March 2024 and is among five finalists for the Art Fund Museum of the Year 2025 award.

Two Scottish projects were nominated for the Visitor Accessibility Award: the Royal Collection Trust’s work to expand accessibility at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and National Galleries of Scotland’s ‘making art work for everyone’ commitment.

The final nominees from Scotland were Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) and The Real Mary King’s Close in Edinburgh, who were both shortlisted for the Shop of the Year category.

Well done to all of the winners and finalists whose hard work was recognised at the Museums + Heritage Awards. A full list of the awards can be found on the Museums + Heritage website.
