MGS funded project wins conservation award

We’d like to congratulate the team at Industrial Museums Scotland for winning the Marsh Conservation Award for Innovation in Conservation at the Institute of Conservation’s 2024 conference this week.
The award was granted in recognition of their pioneering Powering Our People project, a nationwide initiative which provided conservation training to staff and volunteers from the group’s 16 member museums.
This project, which was supported in part by funding from our Museum Development Fund, gave museum sector workers the skills and confidence to preserve Scotland’s valuable industrial heritage. Participants underwent training, exchanged knowledge, and conserved objects which are held within several Recognised Collections of National Significance.
Powering Our People also enabled Industrial Museums Scotland to employ a conservator and an industrial conservation intern. Their expertise supported museum workers with the conservation of a variety of objects including engines, paper archives, and large industrial objects.
We’re pleased that our funding enables museums and galleries to upskill their workers and protect their collections. To find out more about MGS funding opportunities, visit our grants page.
