Help Shape The Second National Strategy For Scotland’s Museums And Galleries

Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) is inviting people working in all roles in Scotland’s museums and galleries to help shape the second national strategy for Scotland’s museums and galleries. The sequel to the current national strategy, Going Further, will launch early in 2023.

To do justice to the sector’s aspirations and ambitions MGS is working with research and insight experts, Diffley Partnership, to design an inclusive and engaging strategy development process with four development stages ‘Discover, Define, Develop, and Deliver’.

As well as gathering input from the sector MGS will consult with a wide range of non-museum and gallery sector stakeholders to understand how their work does already or has the potential to intersect with others.

Lucy Casot, CEO of Museums Galleries Scotland said:

“There’s no standing still in our sector and I am continuously inspired by the passionate work by Scotland’s museums and galleries to adapt to our changing world. Working collaboratively and smarter has never been more important as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and will be central to help us increase our collective impact. We welcome all working or volunteering in the sector to join us for this important ‘Discover’ stage of the national strategy and to help set our future direction.”

For the Discover phase of the strategy development MGS is holding a series of online roundtable events exploring the themes of Society, Economy and Environment. Each will combine engaging presentations and an exercise to encourage reflection about the external and internal factors facing the sector. The first roundtable takes place on 6th December 2021 with others set up to February 2022.  Bookings can be made at https://www.museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk/workforce-development/upcoming-events/.
