MGS participates in Intangible Cultural Heritage symposium

A group of ten adults wearing coats and scarves stand and kneel outdoors. Behind the group is a small body of water and a collection of buildings with dark green wooden walls and ornate white gables.

Jacob O’Sullivan, our Museum Development Manager – Collections & Interpretation, recently joined heritage sector professionals from across Europe for an International Visitors Programme research trip.

This event was organised by Dutch Culture and Immaterieel Erfgoed, the Dutch Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH).

As part of the International Visitors Programme, Jacob attended the ‘Making (Intangible) Heritage Visible’ symposium. He delivered a presentation on ICH in Scotland and the role of ICH in Scotland’s Year of Stories.

He also joined ICH professionals for a range of tours and roundtable talks. The tours highlighted how museums, community groups, and organisations across the Netherlands use technology, workshops, and decolonising practice to explore ICH.
